For the modern textiles that are used across most market areas the key property is their ability to act as a barrier against liquids, whilst allowing vapours to pass through them and escape. This can also affect other characteristics including strength and printability and is controlled by the textile's vapour permeability.

Conventional testing to existing (if outdated) ISO standard (15496:2004) takes several weeks or even months to make a single permeability measurement and this not only adds a huge time lag into any textile development but also is impossible to accept for quality testing.  Fortunately, the Versaperm textile permeability meter cuts weeks down to as little as thirty minutes for many fabrics.

The meter uses advanced instrumental techniques that were not available when the standard was produced and its Part Per Million (PPM) to Parts Per Billion (PPB) accuracy and repeatability, outstrips the standards method in most cases.  It can test multi-layer fabrics as well as several samples or finished products at the same time.

Versaperm also produces a conventional gravimetric system to guarantee formal compliance with the ISO standard. The textile meter is computer controlled via a simple and intuitive user interface. It is designed for both product development and quality control environments.

For companies not wishing to own their own systems, Versaperm can provide a fast-turn-around laboratory service and consultancy.
